:The Smart TranCard can be used on any bus route in MitCity, NeoQueretaro and Starling Island , and on any vehicle with a card reader throughout the system. With this smart card, you won't have to worry about cash or tickets when riding the bus! It's one more way we make transit easier for you to access. Smart TranCards are like an e-purse, where you can load cash. You can also use your card to load a pass to use system-wide*. These cards cost $60 and your balance will never expire.
*Smart TranCards are not available in North St. Helens or Rockton, but passengers with a valid card can use it on buses with the card reader. If the vehicle you're travelling doesn't have a reader, insert a ticket or cash fare into the farebox. If you have a pass loaded, show your card to the driver when you board.
Where to Buy Smart TranCards
Smart cards are available at any bus terminal fare vending machine, customer service centre, participating retailers and information kiosk in the system.
How to Load Cash
All cards come with $100 loaded. If you run low on cash, you have a few options:
At a customer service centre simply give the money you wish to load and present your card to the attendant. The attendant will load the card for you and return it to you.
At an add value machine, insert your card into the insert card slot, then insert the money you wish to add. The machine will only accept dollar bills. Your card will come back with the value added.
How to Use
Tap the card on the reader before boarding. The fare will be automatically deducted, or your pass will be recognized.
When transferring, tap the card when boarding a bus with the card reader. However, please get a paper transfer as a proof of payment in case the vehicle you're boarding does not have a card reader. If you have a pass, show it to the driver.
Reminder
Card and pass users should board at the front, except on lines with card readers located at stops or at terminals. You may also board the bus at any door if the vehicle has card readers located at all passenger doors.
