Find the nearest bus stop to your location and proceed to the stop.
Arrive at the bus stop roughly 5 minutes before the bus arrives. Buses run every 20-40 minutes during off-peak hours and every 5-10 minutes during on-peak hours. For our Neo routes, check the timetables on NQ Transit's site here before you head to the bus stop.
When the bus arrives, board via the front door, pay your fare and enjoy the ride! If you are at that requires proof of payment before boarding, make sure to purchase or validate your ticket, or tap your transit card before you board.

Boarding at a Terminal, Bus Station or End-of-Line Stop
If you are boarding at a terminal or bus station, pay at a fare vending machine, then proceed to the staging area for buses. Buses will display the route number and/or destination on the windshield or on the route sign.
If the bus has arrived, you can board the vehicle via any passenger door and find a seat. The vehicle will only depart if it is full or when it is scheduled to depart.
If the terminal is a stop on the route, you may board from any door.
At an end-of-line stop, when the bus arrives, it will unload first before allowing passengers to load. The driver will stop the engine prior to loading, and restart the engine when the vehicle is ready to depart. Please board via the front door so you can pay your fare.

Boarding if Designated Bus Stops are Not Available (Rockton County, North St. Helens) and Request Board
If you are at an airport, Rockton Health Center, ferry dock or a school, wait at the curb for the bus to show up. Please board via the front door and pay your fare. Buses will also stop for pick-ups and drop offs at major intersections.
In rural areas, buses will stop only if requested to do so. If you want to board, wave your hand or an object at the driver so the driver can stop the bus to let you on. Please board via the front door of the bus and pay your fare.
However, if you are too far from a bus stop, please follow the above procedure so you can get on your way.

Onboard the Buses
When you board, pay your fare, deposit a ticket, show the driver your pass or swipe your TranCard (at stops only). Please proceed to a vacant seat or hold onto the handrail if you wish to stand. Most buses have standing space available in case all the seats are filled.
Also, do not disturb the driver while the vehicle is moving for everyone's safety. You should get a transfer when you board the bus. Card users will have the transfer automatically loaded.
We are a smoke-free environment. No smoking is allowed at any time on buses. The penalty for smoking on transit property is $500 and is strictly enforced.
Most buses have free Wi-Fi so you can connect to the Internet while you travel.

Exiting the Bus
When the bus is about to approach your stop, press the stop request bell and the bus will stop to let you off at the bus stop. Please exit from the rear door(s) or the front door of the bus and walk away from the curb, so the bus can depart. However, please do not interfere with boarding passengers..
If the stop you wish to exit is a terminal, it is not necessary to use the stop request button. Please exit from the rear door(s). However, if that stop is the last stop on the route, the bus driver will only open the rear door(s) or the front door if the bus has only one passenger door. Make sure you bring all belongings with you off the bus. All buses will stop at terminal and hub stations.
If you are on a route with no designated stops, please tell the driver when you are about to get off the bus, and exit through the front door.

Other Things
Buses will not stop for passengers if they are full, unless they are dropping off passengers. The driver will display a "Not In Service" or "Bus Full" sign on the windshield or on the route sign. If a bus is full, please wait for the next bus.
If a bus is about to exit service, do not board the vehicle. All passengers onboard the vehicle will be asked to exit by the driver.
Do not board a bus that says "Special" or "Chartered" on the windshield or route sign unless there are signs saying that you can board. Usually, these buses are hired or used for shuttles- please look at signage for details. If you can board, boarding is permitted from any door.
Sometimes, buses may have a bad day and break down. If the bus you're on breaks down, please remain calm and follow the driver's instructions to evacuate the vehicle. A replacement bus will be sent to pick up stranded passengers and continue the route. Please be cooperative with us if there is a delay on your route due to a breakdown.

Priority Seats
On many buses, you will find priority seats near the front of the bus, or in the centre, depending on where the ramp or lift is located. When elderly passengers, parents with young children or a mobility impaired passenger boards while you are sitting in a priority seat, please vacate the seat for them.
On school buses with wheelchair lifts, the priority seats are in the back of the bus, so passengers travelling with those requiring a mobility aid can sit with them. If priority seats are not marked, the priority seats are at the front of the bus (this includes any vehicle without a wheelchair lift or ramp).
