For your safety:
- Please do not disturb the driver while the bus is moving
- Don't overload a full bus; this restricts the driver's vision and can cause an accident.
- In the event of an emergency such as a breakdown or emergency on board the bus, please remain calm and follow the driver's instructions. Locate the nearest emergency exit on the bus in case you need to evacuate in an accident. Instructions for using the emergency exits can be found on board the bus.
- If the bus breaks down, only leave the bus when instructed to do so. Otherwise, please remain in your seat or in the vehicle.
- Stay behind the yellow line to keep the driver's working area clear.
- Don't open an emergency exit door, hatch or window unless in an emergency. Improper use of an emergency exit will result in a $500 fine, as well as set off an alarm in the vehicle.
- Never carry any object over 130 cm long inside a bus.
- If you're in a seat, stay seated until the bus is about to arrive at your stop.
- Never block the doorway on a bus with one service door.
- Bicycles must be properly secured onto the bike racks on the front if possible. If the bus approaching has its bike rack full, wait for the next bus. If the bus does not have a bike rack, ask the driver if you can bring your bike onboard (except during rush hour, or if the vehicle is heavily loaded).
- On buses that do not allow standing passengers, remain in your seat while the bus is moving.
Rules and Advice While You're Riding:
- Always pay the fare when you board. You can deposit a cash fare in the fare box, or validate your pass, smart card or ticket on the validation machine (if the vehicle has one), or just follow rules in the Fare Information section. Also, you can purchase fares at fare vending machines at stops, if one is available.
- No smoking is allowed anytime on buses, at stops and inside bus terminals. Failure to comply will result in a $1000 fine or prosecution.
- Please let passengers exit first before you board.
- If you're sitting in the Priority Seating area and a person in need of a seat (such as the elderly, pregnant/expecting mothers, mobility impaired or physically impaired, passengers with guide dogs) board, give the seat to the person. You may stand (if necessary) or find another empty spot.
- If a passenger with a bicycle boards, please let them sit in the front so they can monitor their bike.
- If you're on a wheelchair, ask to the driver to deploy the ramp or lift of your bus before you board and when you reach your stop.
- No pets are allowed onboard, except for guide dogs.
- If a fare inspector boards, your bus will be locked down until the inspector leaves. You will required to show proof of payment (tell the inspector, show your card, pass or transfer). Thank you for your cooperation, as we want to avoid fare evasion.
- Stand in the aisle, not in the doorway if possible and stay behind the yellow line.
- Press the stop request button (if available) one stop in advance of your stop. This is not necessary if the next stop is a terminal, or you are requesting a stop. If your bus does not have a stop request system, tell the driver that you're getting off at that stop when you board.
- If you see anything suspicious while you are riding, call police or alert the driver.
